We had a wonderful surprise on Valentines Day morning.
We have been waiting for Strawberry to calve for over a week now but she was holding out til February 14th!
Here's the old gal... she is nearly 18 years old and the best mom ever.
Here she is with her calf - sorry for the poor quality photo it was 5am, dark in the pen she calved in and taken with my cell phone. Yes her calf is black and white. She hasn't been taking to Hereford breedings so after 2 tries we AI with Holstein. She has had a black and white calf for a couple of years now.
Last year Strawberry had a black and white bull. When we went to take him to the beef sale we could not convince the auctioneer that he was half Hereford... we don't plan to sell this little one as it will probably be the last time we breed Strawberry but we have proof from this picture that she has Hereford in her! See that little brown speck of fur? haha
We have named this little gal... Rubyberry or Ruberry for short.
That evening Karl and I had a special candle lit dinner and reminisced over the day.
Oh and just to toss in a funny picture... at morning milking I couldn't resist taking this picture - this gal had morning hair lol The brightness of the photo doesn't do it justice but it sure looked like she was having a bad hair day!

Congratulations!! Wow 18 years old and still going strong! you guys know how the breed 'em. I love the bad hair day on your other cow. She doesn't look too impressed that you snapped a picture eh? tee hee hee
